Surrender Application Has Been Temporarily Removed- CLOSED TO INTAKE!
Please reach us at if you cannot find an answer to your question.
The mission of East Mountain Companion Animal Project is to keep puppies and kittens out of shelters and in their homes via community outreach programs. We also strive to make shelter animal's stays as short and comfortable as possible.
First, we are a "Friends of" organization to the shelters in the East Mountains. EMCAP provides adoption services, for puppies and kittens through the "Mommies Last Litter" program. We offer assistance with supplies/food needed to care for your pets and keep them home. We also offer education programs on responsible pet ownership.
To adopt a pet from EMCAP, you must first fill out an application and submit to a background check. You will need to meet with an adoption counselor, (usually the foster parent) and complete an adoption contract. There is also an adoption fee.
Generally, the cost to adopt is $250 for puppies and $100 for kittens.
This can vary based on extra medical care or special supplies the pet requires while in our care.
Puppies are provided 3 DA2PP vaccines, Oral Bordatella (kennel cough) Deworming, Microchip, Sterilization, Flea/Tick treatment and oral chewable heartworm preventative if it is size/age appropriate.
Kittens receive 3 FVRCP, deworming, sterilization, microchipping and flea/tick treatment if they meet age and size requirements.
The short answer is no. We are a puppy/kitten rescue and have a strict cut-off of 12 weeks old for the "Mommies Last Litter" program. You can list your pet on Adopt-A-Pet.com or reach out to an adult dog rescue group and ask if they have space. If you need to surrender due to lack of food or other supplies, we can attempt to assist with that.
